Mrs. E.C. Holland

Mrs. E.C. Holland, who has been ill for some time of heart trouble and dropsy, passed away quite suddenly at home in Maxwell last, Saturday night.

Martha Elizabeth Brubaker was born in Washington county, Tennessee, January 30, 1847, and departed this life at her home in Maxwell, Iowa, June 5, 1920, at the age of seventy-three years, four months and five days.

She lost her father and mother in early childhood, but was tenderly cared for by her grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Brubaker, with whom she came to Iowa when she was six years of age. They located on a homestead where the town of Maxwell now stands. Almost all of her life was spent in this immediate vicinity.

She was united in marriage with Edward C. Holland August 2, 1868. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter. The children are: Frank, of Collins; William and Olive, of Maxwell, and Charles, who preceded her in death about six years ago. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, three children and eleven grand children.

She was converted and united with the Evangelical church when nineteen years of age, of which church she remained a faithful and consistent member for fifty-four years. For her the toils and sorrows of life are over and she has gone to be with Him in whom she trusted, Jesus her Lord and Saviour.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. D.C. Busenburg, assisted by Rev. H.D. Robinson, of Loring, and Dr. C. Arnold Stewart, of Maxwell. Burial took place in the Maxwell cemtery.
