AGED CITIZEN PASSED AWAY
Ness E. Johnsen Died at an Advanced Age.
Ness E. Johnsen, an aged Danish citizen of this city, passed away about half after twelve this morning after a lingering illness. The old gentleman had been very feeble for months and during the last several days his death had been expected at any time.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Shirck preaching the sermon, after which the body will be interred in the Nevada cemetery.
Ness E. Johnsen was born at Slesvig, Germany, August 5, 1834. He was of Danish parentage. Something over fifty years ago he was married to Mary C. Jensen at Slesvig. They remained in that country until the early 80s when Mr. Johnson and some of the sons came to America and at once located in Nevada. Mrs. Johnsen and the balance of the children came over later and all have since been residents of America the most of them in or near Nevada.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnsen, seven of whom are still living. The children, who with the mother will mourn the death of the father are Matis Johnsen, Andrew P. Johnsen, Ness E. Johnsen and Theodore Johnsen all of this city, Peter Johnsen of Oregon, Mrs. Annie Jensen of Nebraska and Mrs. Mary Christiansen of South Dakota.
Mr. Johnsen was a man of exceptionally fine character, devoted to his family and his church and had always been considered one of the most respected and desirable citizens of the town. During his residence in Nevada, until his advanced age forbid further labors, he conducted a shoeshop on the east side of Lynn street and was always found there by his trade, pleasant and affable. He was a good workman and conscientious tradesman.
