Carmen Shalley

Former Nevada resident Carmen Shalley, 89, died April 17 of congestive heart failure in Mesa, Ariz.

Her ashes were scattered over the Superstition Mountains.

She was an adventurer, rafting down the Colorado River in her 60s. In her 70s she took a trip on a tramp steamer on a trip to Turkey to visit her son and family. she also took a trip to Hong Kong. In her 80s, she took up making bobbin lace and won many ribbons at the Arizona State Fair.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Shalley, who died in 1970.

She is survived by her children, Carol Waleman of Mesa, Dr. Jack Shalley of Springfield, Ill., and Dorothy Law of Maxwell; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
