Norma Jean Lodestein Okland, 81 of Nevada passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Bethany Life Communities in Story City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13 in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Norma was born on March 1, 1932 in Ames to Edward and Ethel (Wakeham) Opperman. On March 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Lodestein and preceded her in death on December 15, 1969. Norma married Leo Okland on December 27, 1977. She was a homemaker and employed by Graphic Forms. Norma was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, and AWBA. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to the casino, knitting, tole painting, bowling, shopping, traveling and reading.
Norma is survived by her five children, Rob (Lori) Lodestein, Tim Lodestein, Kevin (Becky) Lodestein, Janie (Roger Haas) Lodestein, and JoAnn (Tom) Chentland; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick (Helen) Opperman and Jack (Jackie) Opperman.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert "Bob" Lodestein and Leo Okland on February 2, 2002, step-father Jordan Jacobson, a sister Shirley Carmack, five brothers Bill Opperman, Bob Opperman, Dale "Butch" Jacobson, Mike Jacobson, Jordan "Jake" Jacobson, step-sister Marlene, and step-brother Jerry Jacobson.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service again at Memorial Lutheran Church.
A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Norma for the Bethany Life Communities Memory Care Unit.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Norma and her family.
Norma was enjoyed by the staff at Bethany Life Communities and we're very thankful for all their care of our mother.
