Carrol Alvis Tjelmeland
April 28, 1949 - November 8, 2013

Carrol A. Tjelmeland, 64 of Nevada died suddenly on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 14 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Roland Cemetery.

Carrol was born on April 28, 1949 in Eldora to Talmer A. and Stella Marie (Enes) Tjelmeland. He was a 1968 graduate of Nesco High School. Carrol also attended DMACC. On May 1, 1992, he was united in marriage to Karen Ann Jacobson in Des Moines. Carrol was a beloved UPS driver for over 36 ½ years retiring only 4 years ago. He was currently employed by Sorem Sales in Nevada. Carrol was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church. He loved being with his grandchildren and enjoyed collecting toy tractors, feeding the birds, squirrels and deer, watching sports and farming.

Carrol is survived by two sons, Chad (Stacey) Nelson of Nevada and Brent (Sara) Tjelmeland of Atkins; two daughters Korine Nelson of West Des Moines and Kari (Courtney) Pecenka of Van Meter; three grandchildren Ryan, Owen and Stella Tjelmeland; significant other Sherry Peterson of Nevada; a sister Anita (Alan) Johnson of Iowa Falls; four Tjelmeland brothers Norman (Vicki) of Zearing, David (Patti) of Huxley, Dale (Wendy) of Nevada, and Ron (Deb) of Zearing; numerous nieces and nephews.

Carrol was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Karen on June 18, 2012.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13 from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Carrol.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Carrol and his family.
