From Chet Ryan Mortuary obituary, Nevada, Story County, Iowa:

Doris Maxine Larson , 86, passed away on November 1st, 2013 at Bethany Life Community, Story City IA. A visitation will be held from 5-7p.m. Monday, November 4th at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 5th Nevada, IA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 5th 10:30a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Garden City, Iowa.

Doris was born in Eldora, Iowa to Herbert and Augusta Asher on August 15, 1927. She lived her younger years in the Hardin county area graduating from Owasa High School. She married George Larson on Jan. 31, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Hardin and Story county areas until their move to Nevada in 2003.

Doris loved to shop (she could always find a bargain!), play cards, and socialize with friends and family. She was a wonderful cook and always had cookies and the coffeepot on for whom ever would stop by to chat. George and Doris were also accomplished dancers who enjoyed spending time on the dance floor.

They were the parents of two daughter's Nancy and Peggy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband George, June 23, 2009 after 60 years of marriage. Her parents and three sisters, Frances Asher, Marion Given, and Betty Smith also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Nancy (Mike) Waters and Peggy (Brian) Carr both of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren Chad (Amy) Settle, Jarrod (April) Gray, Jamison( Rachel Townsend) Carr, and step granddaughter Lisa (Travis) Bailey. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and three step great great grandchildren. Doris is also remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Bethany Life Community, Story City, Iowa or the Alzheimer's Association.
