Margaret Elizabeth Baker Brooks, 95, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013. She was a resident of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada, Iowa, with burial in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Margaret was born December 4, 1917, east of Nevada at the home of her parents, Nara and Cordelia Davis Baker. She attended school at Hickory Grove and following graduation from Nevada High School in 1936, she was employed at R. H. Donnelly Corp. in Nevada. On March 2, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Lester J. Brooks. They farmed in Milford Township from 1942 through 1978, and moved to Nevada after retiring from farming. Margaret also worked at Graphic Forms, Inc. and retired in December, 1982, after 20 years.

Margaret was a long time member of the Central Presbyterian Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and the financial secretary for 23+ years. She was also a dedicated member of Morning Circle and served on several committees. Margaret was a member of Milford Club, Milford Social Hour Club, ABWA and served a number of years as secretary of the Milford School Board. She was known for her skill in making delicious kringla and found real enjoyment in organizing family reunions, playing card and board games and spending time with friends.

Margaret relocated to South Carolina in July, 2009, to be closer to her immediate family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jan Brooks, of Bluffton, SC, and her grandchildren, Ryan Brooks of Truckee, CA and Chad (Deb) Brooks of Memphis, TN, and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester on January 2, 2000; sisters, Esther (Robert) Taylor and Beulah (John) Gimzo; and brother, Harold (Marjorie) Baker.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Margaret at the Central Presbyterian Church.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Margaret and her family.
