Evelyn Carrie Thomas, 86, of Nevada died Thursday, May 1 of pneumonia at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 5 at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada, with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Evelyn was born Jan. 29, 1917 in Story County, the daughter of Lloyd and Elva (Emerson) Young. She was a graduate of Shipley High School. Evelyn married Homer Thomas on Aug. 21, 1935 in Bethany, Mo. She was a cook at Milford School, a clerk in the Assessor's Office, helped her husband farm, but most of all a wonderful mother and grandmother. Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada and enjoyed crocheting,knitting, sewing, and quilting. She was a lifelong resident of Story County.
Evelyn is survived by one son, Raymond Thomas and his wife Barb of Nevada; two daughters, Rita Gonser and her husband John of Sequim, Wash. and Dixie Grindem and her husband John of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Alexander of Marshalltown; one brother, Dale Young and his wife Pat of Glendale, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer on March 1, 1989; an infant sister, Pauline; and a grandson Jerry Thompson.
