Gesine Sternberg
Dec. 14, 1911-Oct. 24, 2005

Gesine "Bernadine" Sternberg, 93, of Ames, died Monday, Oct. 24 at Riverside Manor in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Gesine "Bernadine" Sternberg was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Hecla, S.D., to Hei and Reka (Bruns) Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed in Hecla and attended country school.

She married Eric O. Sternberg Oct. 1, 1940, in Wheaton, Minn. They traveled to California an lived there until 1973, when they moved to Ames.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. She was housewife and mother. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

he survivors include her children, Marlene Herget of Kelso, Wash., Dennis (Barbara) Sternberg of Lakeview, Ark., and Elaine (Dennis) West of Ames. Her grandchildren are Laura (Alex) Countouriotis, of Kelso, Wash., Edward Herget of Tracy, Calif., Erika (Jason) Coate of Nevada, Susan (James) Fangmann of Ames and Michael West of Nevada. Her great-grandchildren are John, Chloe, Parker, Ty and Isaac. She also is survived by one brother, Helmer Schmidt of Elbow Lake, Minn.; and son sister, Leona Symens of Herman, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
