Mrs. Palmerton Died Monday at Methodist Hospital

Jennie Harper Palmerton, 74, wife of the Rev. Roy L. Palmerton, 1034 Eleventh street, passed away at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Monday night at 9:15. She had been taken to the hospital Tuesday, April 6, where she underwent a major abdominal operation on Wednesday from which she never rallied.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at Central Presbyterian church with the Reverend James D. Ransom in charge of the services. Committal will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of a son who died at the age of nineteen months.

Mrs. Palmerton is survived by her husband and three sons. The latter are Leighton Palmerton of Rapid City, S. D., where he is personnel director at the South Dakota School of Mines; Staff Sergeant Robert M. Palmerton of Bowman Field, Kentucky, and Captain Ernest Sterling Palmerton, who is at Fort Des Moines.

She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Horton of St. Joe, Mo., and Miss Ruth Harper at Oakland, Calif.; and by one brother, John S. Harper of Salem, Ore. The oldest brother, Bruce Harper, passed away Monday morning, July 31, at his home in Onawa.

Mrs. Palmerton, daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. R. H. Harper, pioneer residents of Nevada, was born to them at the farm home two miles east of Nevada on Nov. 8, 1870. She would have been 74 years of age next November.

She was a graduate of the Nevada high school with the class of 1888.

Rev. and Mrs. Palmerton have been occupying their home at 1034 Eleventh street, for the past several years. While Mrs. Palmerton had not been in good health for some time, her last illness came quite suddenly last Monday when she was stricken with an accute attack which necessitated her hospitalization and subsequent surgical operation.
