Hertha M. Stuehrk
March 31, 1909 to Jan. 26, 1998Hertha M. Stuehrk, 88, of Nevada died Monday, Jan 26, at the Story County Long Term Care facility due to complications of diabetes.
She was born March 31, 1909, in Hoskins, Neb., to William and Amanda Marquardt Gnirk. She graduated from Norfolk High School in 1928 and attended Business College in Sioux City.
She married Hans Stuehrk on Sept. 14, 1933, in Hoskins, Neb. She had worked as a cashier in the cafeteria at Donnelleys in Nevada for a number of years. She and her husband, Hans, helped organize the Senior Citizen Group in Nevada, and she was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan (and Paul) Brown of Osage, Karen (and John) Smith of Jefferson, and Donna (and Marvin) Scherr of Ames; 10 grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Nov. 30, 1990; six brothers, Edgar, Gerhardt, Alwin, Venus, Harvey and a brother in infancy; and four sisters, Lydia Brown, Mattie Uecker, Hilda Forsman and Elfa Scott.
Visitation will be at the Bacon-Cooper Funeral Home in Nevada today (Jan.29) between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Nevada with Rev. Ellen Taube officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Story County Long Term Care.
