Hans Stuehrk, 79, of Nevada died of cancer Nov. 30 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
He was born in Hemmingstedt, Germany, to Gustav and Clara (Borrman) Stuehrk. He completed his high school and college education in Germany and immigrated to the United States on June 30, 1930. He became a U.S. citizen on Sept 16, 1940. He married Hertha Gnirk on Sept. 14, 1933, in Hoskins, Neb., and was retired farmer and a retired employee of Anderson Lumber of Nevada Schoeneman Lumber in Ames, where he worked 14 years as an assistant manager and draftsman.
He was a member of Nevada Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada senior citizens club, a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent, church choir member, and was involved in other church activities. He was also chairman and emcee of Nevada Community Luncheon for 12 years and an RSVP volunteer.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan Brown of Osage, Karen Smith of Jefferson, and Donna Scherr of Ames; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Visitation was held Dec. 2 at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. Services were held Dec. 3 at Nevada Memorial Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Forrest E. Chaffee officiating. Burial was in Nevada Cemetery.
