Robert T. "Bob" Moore, 69, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in Amarillo.

Bob was born May 28, 1943, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Francis and Vera Moore. One of seven children, Bob grew up in Iowa where he learned to hunt and fish with his dad and brothers. Many a night was spent hunting raccoons with them and his coon hound, Ol' Charlie. He graduated from Story City High School in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Richardson, in August 1963. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1962 to 1968 and was honorably discharged as an E4 Infantry Corporal.

Bob started his career working in agriculture. He began as a double circle Co-Op employee in Story City, Iowa; Alleman, Iowa, and Onawa, Iowa, and eventually as a bulk blend fertilizer plant manager at Weslaco. He moved to Dumas in 1976 as an Ag chemical/fertilizer specialist and finally moved to Amarillo in 1983 as a district manager for the tri-state area. He was employed by Farmland Industries for 23 years. Following that, he became a certified financial planning advisor for 23 years with Waddell & Reed until he retired two years ago.

Bob participated in Toastmasters International for more than 21 years and won honors in various humorous speech area contests over the years. He was an active CASA volunteer for more than 12 years and loved the children he was appointed to help.

He battled brain cancer in a heroic way and never gave up the fight. He strived to live out the Great Commandment: "Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength" and "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Bob was also proud of his and wife Shirley's Royal Texas Pony Farm. He always wanted to be a rancher and cowboy as he grew up. They raised registered American shetland ponies, a tradition passed on from Shirley's father, the late Howard Richardson of Story City. Bob achieved the honor of winning an ASPC 2011 National Grand Champion ribbon in the Filly division as well as other awards.

He was a member of the Church of Christ at The Colonies. Bob was baptized as a youth and was always a dedicated Christian and served God and the churches he attended over the years in various ways. He was a deacon, an elder, Sunday school teacher and servant. It was his greatest desire to see his family and friends have a personal relationship with Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Moore of Ames, Iowa.

Survivors his wife, Shirley of Amarillo; a son, Dr. Tory and wife Kaye Moore of Dumas; two daughters, Thea Russell and husband Dr. Dean Russell of Rockford, Minn., Christina Mathews and husband Kevin Mathews of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Dustin Beck and wife Jennifer of Spearman, Austin Beck of Amarillo, David Moore and wife Kathyrn of Memphis, Tenn., Laura Moore of Lubbock and fiancé Zach Maner of Amarillo, Justin Mathews and Jessica Mathews of Sulphur Springs and Rachel Russell of Oakland, Calif.; a great-grandson, Bentley Baldridge of Spearman; his sisters, Rose Kincaid of Bethany, Mo., Mary Moore of Nevada, Iowa, Nancy Prather of Waynesville, Mo., and Kathy Hein of Boone, Iowa; a brother, Jim Moore of Nevada,Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Karla Kelly of Ames.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Patel and the staff at Amarillo Oncology, Dr. Cone and staff, Dr. Stafford and staff, Harrington Cancer Center, BSA Hospital and BSA Hospice for the wonderful care of their father as well as for all the friends and family that loved Bob and displayed their affection for him.

Bob leaves a great legacy with his family, and he never met a stranger. He was always good for a laugh and encouraged people to invest for retirement, starting early. Remember him each time you hear a humorous joke or story, smile and say to yourself, "Bob Moore, now there was a good and honorable man."
