Carrie Marion Obrecht

Carrie M. Obrecht, 85, of Zearing passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, in Zearing, on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. with the family present at 5 p.m. A rosary service will beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Colo.

Carrie Marion Sparrow Obrecht , age 85, passed away Monday, August 12 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Carrie was born February 3, 1928 to Ross and Rose (Kutter) Sparrow in rural Zearing. She graduated from Zearing Consolidated School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedars Falls. While teaching elementary school in Rhodes, IA, she met the love of her life, Raymond. They were united in marriage March 31, 1951 in her home parish of St. Gabriel Church. They started their married life at Ray’s parents farm in State Center. In 1958, they moved their farming to Zearing where they continued raising their family. She actively helped Ray on the farm, driving tractors and feeding the family. Carrie & Ray semi-retired in 1993 and they moved to McCallsburg before retiring in 2000 to her parents farm (Ross & Rose Sparrow) in Zearing. Carrie loved watching any type of sports, especially Pro Bowling and WNBA. She loved her family, taking the grandchildren camping and fishing. They enjoyed traveling to visit their family in various states and Europe. To celebrate their 60th anniversary, they went on an Alaskan cruise.

Carrie is survived by her husband Raymond of Zearing; sister/cousin Mary Kay (Hoel) Phillips of Zearing, IA; blessed with five children, Carol Hutto of Jacksonville, FL and children Michael (Jennifer) and Raymond of Jacksonville FL; Liz Tischler (John) of Eustis, FL and children Michael (Chris) Lounsberry of Orlando, Fl and Kerri (Steve) Whitley, of Savannah, GA; Rick Obrecht (Patty) of Kenosha, WI and children Abbe of Kenosha, WI, Kate of Columbus, OH and Rich of Milwaukee, WI; Dave Obrecht (Peggy) of Zearing, IA and children Lisa of Ames, IA, Emily (Beau) Hoppe of Ames, IA and Ryan of Dubuque, IA; and Jacki Pickles (Lance Carver) and children Megan, Jessica and Danielle of Zearing, IA. Great grandchildren are Bristin and Loren Whitley, Austin and Hayley Lounsberry and Blake Obrecht.

She joins her parents, Ross and Rose Sparrow; brothers, Dick Sparrow and Ross (Skip) Sparrow; and grandson, Nathan Obrecht.
