Irene was born on March 25, 1928 in Ames, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille Slippy Markley. She married Cecil C. Lande on April 22, 1946 in Huxley. Irene worked at Collegiate Manufacturing Company for 35 years until retiring at age 65. Not being content to be retired, she worked for three years at Ballard High School in the kitchen and then worked for the Ames Area Redemption Center. She was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, dancing, singing, camping and traveling with family. She especially loved to make Norwegian cookies called Kringla for family and friends.
Irene is survived by a sister, Phyllis (Merlin) Holveck of Gilbert; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; son, Danny Lande; four brothers and two sisters.
Irene's close family extends a sincere "Thank You" to the staff and nurses at Bethany Life for the wonderful care Irene received.
As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Bethany Manor or Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com.
