Paul E. Morgan
June 18, 1923 - August 30, 2013Paul Morgan age 90 of Ames, IA, died peacefully at Mary Greeley Medical Center on Friday August 30. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 5, at the United Church of Christ - Congregational, 6th and Kellogg in Ames. Burial will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Paul Morgan was born June 18, 1923, in Hudson, IA, the son of Barton and Catherine (Wallace) Morgan. He graduated from Ames High School in 1941 and from Iowa State University in 1944, in Civil Engineering. He married Fran Manning on January 6, 1945, in Larchmont, NY, while he was in the US Navy. Paul was a Lieutenant Junior Grade Seabee assigned to the Pacific Fleet in the Philippines Islands. The couple returned to Iowa where Paul worked with the cities of Estherville, Algona, and Des Moines for the Iowa Department of Public Health and received his masters in Sanitary Engineering in 1956. Paul joined the Iowa State Department of Civil Engineering faculty in 1953, moved to the Dean's Office in 1964, and was appointed Associate Dean in 1969. After serving as an administrator and educator for 35 years, he retired from Iowa State in 1988. A scholarship fund was established in his name to foster education for minorities and women in Engineering in Iowa. This scholarship reminds us all of his pioneering work to make excellent engineering education available to all students. Paul enjoyed traveling, activities such as fishing, bowling, and golf, and spending time with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ - Congregational in Ames.
Paul is survived by his children: sons, Jack (Randi) of Bainbridge Island, WA, and Mike (Genelle) of Pella, IA; daughter, Betty (John) Morgan Pittman of Parker, CO; grandchildren: Tom (Andrea) Morgan, John (Jessica) Morgan, Lisa (Anthony) Morgan Alvino, Sara (John) Morgan Shaffer, Kelly(Tyler) Pittman Kellogg, Jeffrey Pittman, and Jane Pittman; and great grandchildren: Isabella and Catherine Alvino, Benjamin Morgan, Samuel Kellogg, Mae Shaffer; and brother, Richard Morgan of San Antonio, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fran, sister, Margaret and brother Harold.
