Ferne B. Peterson
April 16, 1911 to Aug. 19, 2003

Ferne B. Peterson, 92, of Nevada died of complications from an infection on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

Ferne was born on April 16, 1911, in Roland to Elmer O. and Clara (Twedt) Highland. She was a 1928 graduate of Roland High School. She married Alfred M. Peterson on June 30, 1933, at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. She was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle of the LCW, Indian Creek Country Club, Charter member of the Dance Club, and Federated Women's Club on the national, state and county levels. She was recognized by Governor Branstad as an Outstanding volunteer and by the Red Cross for her ountless volunteer hours. She enjoyed reading, sewing, playing bridge and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue (and Rodney) Hansen of Ames; four grandchildren; thre great grandsons and seven great-granddaughters; a sister, Wilma (and Allan) Haukom of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al, on Nov. 15, 2001; a son, Max A. Peterson on July 9, 1988; and a brother Robert Highland.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Chruch in Nevada with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ferne's name for the Memorial Lutheran Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
