Joseph H. `Joe' Duea

VENTURA

Mr. Joseph H. ``Joe'' Duea, 82, of 1044 237th St., Ventura, died Friday (May 24, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jana Swenson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Roland Cemetery, Roland. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday to receive friends. Family suggests memorials to the Joseph H. Duea Memorial Fund.

Mr. Duea was born May 5, 1914, in Roland, the son of Homer and Julia (Woster) Duea. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in McCallsburg and then attended Iowa State University, Ames. He married Eunice A. Fincham on Sept. 25, 1938, in Gilbert.

Joe was a lifelong farmer and farm manager. He was a well known purebred livestock breeder, exhibitor and judge. One of his most memorable experiences was having the Grand Champion Steer at the International Livestock Exhibition in Chicago, Ill., in 1945. They have resided in the Ventura area and have enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, Ariz.

He was a charter member of the Cerro Gordo Extension Council, a long-time 4-H member and leader and received the 4-H alumna award in 1978. He was charter member of Story County Junior Farm Bureau which was started in 1932. He also was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. Joe enjoyed gardening and raising roses and gladiolas.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Duea, of Ventura; three sons, Alan Duea and his wife, Chris, of Clear Lake; Steve Duea and his wife, Kathy, of Mankato, Minn., and Joe Duea of Mankato, Minn.; one daughter, Carolyn Coe, and her husband, Bill, of Ventura; eight grandchildren, Daphne Feekes, Dustin Duea, Eric Coe, Colette Sampson, Aaron Coe, Ben Duea, Kyle Duea and Nicole Duea; four great-grandchildren, Felicia Feekes, Nicholas Coe, Jennifer Coe and Clayton Sampson; one sister, Gerry Munson, and her husband, Vern, of Story City; one brother-in-law, Richard Dunn, and his wife, Elizabeth, Mesa, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law, Anita Fincham, and her husband, Dick, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Dunn.
