Harold Dean Robbins
April 22, 1927 - March 19, 2013Harold Dean Robbins, 85, of Ames, died at the Israel Family Hospice House on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Burial will be at a later date at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Dean was born in Floris, IA on April 22, 1927 to Charles and Virgie Robbins. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1944 and entered the Army Air Corps where he served briefly. Dean married Carrie Lou Leach in 1945 and they were blessed with two children. He graduated from Drake University with a degree in Accounting and began working for the Caterpillar Tractor Company. Dean worked at various locations across the world during his career before he and Lou retired in York, Pa. in 1986. He moved to Ames in 2007.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Kevin) Hansen, of Eagle River, Alaska, and Cindy (Tom) Baas, of Ames; five grandchildren, Stacy Hansen, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Erica (Kyle) Cuzzort, of Juneau, Alaska, Jason Baas, of Bartonville, Ill., Jerod Baas, of Ames, and Kari (Brandon) Hummel, of Urbandale; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Sam, Payton and Grace; a sister, JoAnn Lund, of Tacoma, Wash.; a half-brother, Sig (Diane) Olson, of Tacoma, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Lou, and several brothers.
