Jay E. Shannan
April 1, 1962 - April 25, 2013

Jay Shannan, 51, of Ames, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames following a courageous three year battle with cancer. Jay's life will be celebrated at the shed on Jay's farm on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 1-3 PM. His final resting place will be at Thompson Cemetery, Van Buren County Iowa at a later date.

Jay was born on April 1, 1962 in Burlington, Iowa; the son of Joe and Zeta Payne Shannan. He graduated from West Burlington High School in 1980 and furthered his education at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University where he received his doctorate degree in mechanical engineering. Jay married Deb Genaway on June 17, 2010. He was one of the founders of Engineering Animation in Ames after which he engaged in prairie restoration on his farm and restored antique John Deere tractors.

Jay is survived by his wife, Deb, of Ames; his children, Brian Shannan and Kate Shannan both of Ames, Forrest Williams of Des Moines and Emily and Grace Williams of Ames; his parents, Joe and Zeta Shannan of West Burlington; a brother, Troy (Amie) Shannan of Mars, PA and a sister, Molly (Kevin) Christensen of Danville, IA. He was preceded in death by his sister Tracy Shannan.
