Hortense Mortenson
April 29, 1919-Dec. 10, 1994

Hortense H. Mortenson, 75, of Story City, died Saturday of heart failure at her home in Story City. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, with the Rev. John Wogsland officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.

Hortense Hillpipre was born in Woolstock to August and Fanny Hilpipre. She married Marvin Mortenson on June 13, 1938. A former resident of the Jewell and Gilbert area, she and her husband had owned and operated a tavern and restaurant in Gilbert. In 1957, she moved to Randall, and in 1984 to Story City. She was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.

She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Dodds of rural Ames, Colleen Claude of Jewell, and Susan Johnson of Plymouth, Minn.; three brothers, Marcel Hilpipre, Clarence Hilpipre and Edmund Hilpipre, all of Webster City; four sisters, Elsie Story, Dorothy Lappin, Irene Barkema and Erma Stuhmer, all of Webster City; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Visitation is today after 3 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.
