Hans S. Nelson, son of Sam and Christiana Johnson Nelson, was born on a farm 5 miles west of Story City, Oct. 14, 1880. He grew to manhood on this farm and lived there until his retirement in 1920, in which year he moved to Story City.
He was baptized and received early Christian training in the Lutheran Church, then located northwest of Story City. In 1928, he, together with his wife, united with Grace church in Story City.
On December 18, 1901, he was united in marriage with Mary Paulson. To this union 2 children were born, both of whom survive their father. In his later years, Mr. Nelson worked as a sort of hobby, in his repair and woodwork shop, from which he received much satisfaction. He served 13 years on the Story City Council, and was a member of the Masonic Fraternal Order.
He was a home-loving husband and father. His chief interest and love lay within the home and among those of the family circle whom he loved so well. He was a love of God's great out-of-doors and spent much time in field and woods.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two half-brothers. Surviving are: his widow, two children, LeRoy Nelson of Webster City and Mary Ruth Tressler of Marshalltown and five grandchildren.
