George Samson Tokheim (1869-1950)

George Samson Tokheim was born January 24th, 1869, in Odda, Norway. He came to America at the age of 18 and was married Anna Berven in St. Paul's Lutheran church, northwest of Story City, August 22, 1886.

A charter member of Immanuel Lutheran church, he gave liberally of his time and money in the formation of days of the congregation.

He entered the wholesale produce business as a young man and was later joined in business by his son.

George Tokheim passed away at his home Saturday evening, July 1, at the age of 21 years, 5 months and 8 days. He had been ill four years. His wife, Anna, one daughter, Mrs. Sophia Gunsten, and one son, Gerhard, preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clara Adsem of Decorah, and one son, S. G. Tokheim of Story City. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 5 in the Immanuel church, preceded by a prayer service in the Larson-Peterson Funeral Home, Rev. Skihaud officiating.

Lillian Alsager sang two solos.

The casket bearers were: Gerhard Gunsten of Dubuque, Severt Berven of Webster City, Nels Berven of Jewell, John Michaelson of Roland, and Jerry and John Tokheim of Story City. Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Adsem of Decorah and Rev. and Mrs. G. Gunsten of Benson, Minnesota.
