Obituary for Keith Landon
Keith L. Landon died March 1 at Green Hills Health Care where he had been a patient since January 25. Keith had been in failing health since he had a heart attack four years ago. He was hospitalized for rehabilitation treatment after sustaining a broken hip. Memorial services will be on Wednesday, March 6, 1:30 p.m., at First Christian Church, Sixth Street and Clark Avenue, Ames.
He was born June 11, 1915 at Marion, Iowa. His family moved to the Marshalltown area when he was a baby. He was graduated from LaMoille High School and attended Iowa State University.
During World War 2 he served with the 813th Aviation Engineers building airports in the Aleutian Islands for three years with Okinawa as his final assignmentHe worked 40 years for Bowman Products Division, Barnes Group as a sales representative for automotive parts and accessories.
He was a member of First Christian Church, the Ames Noon Rotary Club, and for 50 years the Ames Golf and Country Club. He volunteered for the Ames Public Library for which he delivered books to shut-ins and baby books to parents of newborns at Mary Greeley Medical Center and served on the Friends Library board after his retirement in l992. Keith enjoyed traveling with his family, golf, fishing, bridge and ISU sports.
Keith was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Monty Hemphill, and a brother, LaVern.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, whom he married on January 30, 1946, and by two daughters Nancy Landon Hemphill, of Ellsworth, Iowa, and Julie Landon Huisman (Tom) of Ames; five grandchildren, Becky Hemphill Rogers,(Aaron) Ames; Katie Hemphill Molstad,(Nate) Ankeny; Kevin Charles Huisman, Ames; Melissa Kay Huisman, College Station, Texas; and Karina Ann Huisman, Ames; two great granddaughters, Allison Elaine Rogers, Ames and Bianca Anne Huisman, Kennesaw, Georgia; one brother, Max, Denver, Colorado; a sister, Lois Wishmeyer, Cedar Falls; and eight nieces and nephews.Memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church or the Ames Historical Society.
