John B. Charlier
APRIL 24, 1927-APRIL 15, 2000

John B. Charlier, 71, of Story City, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City, with the Rev. Donald Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.

John B. Charlier was born on April 24, 1927 in Marshall County, the son of John B. and Ethel (Pinkerton) Charlier. He lived near Melbourne until 1952 when the family moved to New Providence. The family moved to Story City in 1958. He served in World War II in the U. S. Army Air Corp. He married Ruth Miller on June 24, 1949. She died on Oct. 13, 1985. He married Judith Sowers on Feb. 24, 1990. He was employed at Woodland Farms from 1958 to 1962, and he started his own business, Charlier Electric, in 1964. He also sold DeLaval milking equipment. He retired in 1966. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Story City Lions.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, James Charlier of Boulder, Colo., and Bruce Charlier of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Barbara M. Meyer of Fairfield, Marjorie A. Charlier of Denver, Colo., and Ruth Renee Erickson of Lugoff, S.C., and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by first wife and two brothers.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. today with the fmaily present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.
