Mervin J. Teig
May 9, 1926-Jan. 12, 2001

Mervin J. Teig, 74, of Ames, died Friday at Israel Family Hospice House of Ames of cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall with Rev. Jim Norem officiating. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.

Mervin J. Teig was born on May 9, 1926, in Hamilton County. He was a farmer and also had worked at Bethany Manor and Story County State Bank in Story City. He lived northwest of Story City in 1981. He moved to Ames in 1999. He married Carrie Akre on Dec. 10, 1951. She died in 1989. He married Paula Hendrickson of June 29, 1991. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City and Sons of Norway. He was on the board at Bethany Manor in Story City and Story County Senior Citizens Board.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Teig of Ames; four daughters, Nancy Johnson of Story City, JoAnn Gregg of Des Moines, Connie Rasmusson of Story City and Donna Henderson of Story City; three sons, DeWayne Teig of Dubuque, and John and James Teig of Story City; three stepsons, Scott Oberender of Kamrar, and Jared and Christopher Oberender of Ames; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Luther Teig of Brainerd, Minn., and Raymond Teig of Kimberling City, Mo., and one sister, Ruby Olson of Fairmont, Minn.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and one sister.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Israel Family Hospice, Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City and Riverside Bible Camp.

Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
