John M. Johnson was born on September 1, 1883 to Morton and Sena Johnson on a farm west of Story City, Iowa and passed away on September 19, 1959 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa t the age of 78 years and 19 days. His death was attributed to leukemia from shich he had suffered the past three years and which caused his hospitalization numerous times. He re-entered Mary Greeley Hospital on September 16 for what proved to be his last trip to a hospital. Death came in his sleep on Saturday evening.
On December 7, 1903 he was united in marriage to Sena Jensen. To this union were born eight children: three daughters and five sons, namely: Leonard, Milford, Ida, Kenneth, Mamie, Freda, Delbert and Leo. The first twelve years of their married life, the Johnson's were engaged in farming. After leaving the farm, they moved to Story City where for forty years he was engaged in trucking. He had been in retirement the past five years.
Mr. Johnson joined Grace church in Story City along with his wife on July 9, 1916 and was one among the group of members of long-standing.
he is survived by his wife, Sena; all eight children: Leonard, Milford and Ida Disbrowe of Story City; Kenneth of Des Moines; Mamie, Mrs. Max Tevebaugh, Freda, Mrs. Gordon Hoffman, Delbert and Leo all of Ames; sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Paulson of Ames; two half-sisters, Mrs. Alice Ringer of Calif. and Mrs. Leva Hiatt of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted from Grace Church at 3:00 on Sept. 22, 1959 with the Rev. Darryl R. Ziettlow in charge. The music was furnished by Mrs. Luther Matson and Mrs. Leslie Hoffman with Mrs. Dorrell Doolittle at the organ. Casketbearers were Charles Johnson, Darwin Johnson, James Hoffman, Larry Johnson, Ronald Johnson and Gerald Johnson.
Interment was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
