From Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Vada Lucille Larsen, 87, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Vada was born July 14, 1925, to James and Anna (Orr) Marcy. She graduated from Fall River High School in 1942 as Salutatorian of her class. Vada had training while in high school so she could become a teacher, and proceeded to teach for one year and summer school in a one room school house outside of Fall River. She then attended Emporia State College as a business major. Vada met her future husband while working as a secretary at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS. She worked in the vault of blueprints with the B-29's and Edward was in the Engineering Department. On February 7, 1946, she married Edward Larsen in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. She and Edward lived on farms outside of Nevada for many of their married years raising four children, and then moved into Nevada in 1968.

Among the various jobs she held include working for the Iowa Highway Commission, Donnelly's Marketing and in the Clerk of Court Office at the Story County Court House.

Vada was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, the Milford Social Hour, along with various card and square dancing clubs. She was a terrific pianist (especially ragtime) and enjoyed gardening, cats, knitting, the Cyclones and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vada is survived by her three sons, Rodger (Nancy) Larsen of Alpine, CA, William (Kathy) Larsen of Kasota, MN and Steven (Renee) Larsen of Nevada; one daughter, Debra (Don) Carlson of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren, Jessica Larsen and her children, Ryan and Marcus, Eric (Anne) Larsen and children Morgan and Claire, Rianne Carlson, Christoffer Larsen, Kelly (Brandon) Allen and their daughter, Emma Rose, Sydney Larsen and fiancé Joe Czarny and Connor Larsen.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 23, 2009; her parents; three sisters, Clelia Constad, Anita Byers and Lura Hanson.

Vada will always be remembered for being proud of her Irish and Scottish roots and being a girl from Kansas, named after a Kansas Wheat Queen. She always rooted for the Cyclones unless they were playing a Kansas team. She put her family first, and wanted to make sure that everyone's needs were met. Vada enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and entertaining them with her piano playing. She had a love of music, and tried to pass that passion onto the next generation.

Visitation with the family present will be 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with burial to follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Manor or the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.
