William S. Weber

BORN: December 16, 1930
DIED: October 12, 2012
LOCATION: Madrid, Iowa

William Seth Weber was born on December 16, 1930 to Rev. W.G. and Marie (Wettengal) Weber in Kellogg, Iowa. He attended schools in Lost Nation, Sheffield and Searsboro, graduating in 1949. William then enlisted in the U.S Navy serving 5 years active duty and 1 year in the reserves, the majority of his active duty was with the VP-21 Patrol Squadron. William received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, and a master's degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He started his career in Social Services in the state of Iowa, after 4 years at the state level, William moved to the federal level working in Social Services for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He worked on reservations in Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and North Dakota. He concluded his Bureau of Indian Affairs career as an acting area Social Worker in Billings Montana. William also spent several years working for Veterans Affairs in Knoxville, Iowa. He retired to Clarinda where he enjoyed volunteer work, American Legion Service and refining his cooking and baking skills for family, friends and his Bethesda church family.

William passed away October 12, 2012 under the compassionate care of the Madrid Home staff and community.

He is survived by two brothers, Cornelius (June) Weber of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Simon (Brenda) Weber of Keosauqua; a brother-in-law, Dutch Schakel of Farmington; a sister-in-law, Luella Weber of Marshalltown; three daughters Connie (Ryan) Westling of Austin Texas, Karen Goodman of Ames and Julia (Daniel) Sullivan of rural Ames; four grandchildren, Michelle Westling and Christine Westling, both of Austin, Texas, Jason (Nicole) Goodman of Ames and Maggie Sullivan of rural Ames; a great-grandson, Corbin Goodman of Ames; his special friend, Ruthella Bersch of Essex; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from across the years.

William was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margretta Schakel of Farmington; and a brother, Immanuel Weber of Marshalltown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Madrid Home Community, Madrid, Iowa.
