Funeral services for Ethel B. Omvig, 96, of Fairmont, Minnesota, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center Chapel in Fairmont. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Ethel passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 11, 2012, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Bertina Frette; husband, Burnett Omvig; sister, Vernal Frette; brothers, Otis , Arnold , Luverne and Ardis Frette; brothers-in-law, Floyd Friest, and Arnold Omvig; and sisters-in-law, Delores Frette, Elena Frette, Bernice Frette, Mary Frette, and Isabelle Omvig.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Terry) Bohler of Birchwood, Wisconsin, Maxine (George) Riches of Crosslake, Minnesota, Genevieve (Richard) Range of Baldwin, Wisconsin, and Ann (Allan) Johnson of Sioux City; sons, Charles (Valerie) Omvig of Fairmont, Minnesota, George (Sheila) Omvig of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Jon (Karen) Omvig of Ballwin, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Friest of Garden City, Iowa; brothers, Merle (Phyllis) Frette and Bennett Frette, all of Story City; sister-in-law, Charlotte Frette of Phoenix, Arizona; many other relatives and friends.

Ethel B. (Frette) Omvig was born on February 10, 1916, in Story City, Iowa, and grew up on the family farm in Rosendale, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edward and Bertina (Jacobson) Frette. Ethel graduated from Story City High School in 1934 and became certified as a teacher in Iowa.
March 20, 1940, Ethel was united in marriage to Burnett Omvig in Story City. They lived there until moving to Fairmont in 1952.

Ethel was very active in Grace Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. She was also an avid volunteer; at the Fairmont Hospital Coffee Shop, an active member of Keenagers making quilts for missions and was always available to chauffeur friends to church, doctor appointments or just out to lunch.

Ethel was employed for many years at Stokely's and upon retirement, enjoyed get-togethers with other retired employees. Her retirement was spent traveling the U.S. to visit children and grandchildren, camping; fishing, crocheting, making lefsa and watching Twins baseball. She was especially proud of crocheting afghans for graduations for all her grandchildren as well as baby afghans for all her great grandchildren. She lived a long, wonderful life and will be remembered for her ready smile, love for children and family, and making cookies, fish and lefsa. She will be missed by all. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Chuck for the care giving he provided over the last few years of her life.
