Benjamin W. Erickson, 89, passed away August 18, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City. A memorial service celebrating Ben's life will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Bethany Manor chapel in Story City. Burial will take place at Story City Memorial Cemetery.

Ben was born on November 1, 1922 to John and Alma (Mason) Erickson in Story City. He graduated from Story City High School and served in the United States Army Air Force as a First Lieutenant, Navigator-Bombardier during World War II.
Following his discharge, he continued his education and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with a Bachelor's Degree. Ben was employed with Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York City.

In 1962 he married Ruby Bice in Concord, California where he was a high school English teacher in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District in Concord, California for 23 years. Ben retired in 1985 and returned to Story City with his wife, Ruby, where he lived out his remaining years. Ben was also very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; parents, John and Alma Erickson and one brother, Kenneth Erickson, Sr. Ben's memory will be cherished by his nephew, Kenneth E. Erickson, Jr. and his wife, Linda.
