From Shcroeder Memorial Chapel obituary, Boone, Iowa:

Marie Uthe, age 84 of Ames, died August 18, 2012, at the Israel Family Hospice House.

A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames with Rev. Jim Secora officiating. Burial will be in Saint’s Peter and Paul Cemetery, northwest of Gilbert.

Friends may call at St. Cecilia Church on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. The family will be present at the Church from 6 until 8 p.m.

Visitation continues Wednesday at the Church from 12:30 p.m. until service time.

Marie was born November 23, 1927, on a farm in Harrison Township in rural Boone County, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Wirth) Jordan.

She graduated from Jordan High School in Jordan and then attended the Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines, graduating in 1949.

Following graduation, she worked at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.

Marie married Daniel L. Uthe on September 29, 1951, at Saint’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church near Gilbert.

She and her husband lived and farmed in Boone and Story Counties.

Marie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning produce, crafts, sewing, and quilting.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with her great grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel, and a brother Vincent Jordan.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel J. Uthe and wife Peggy of Gilbert and Gary Uthe and wife Sue of Story City; two daughters, Rose Anderson and husband Larry of Perry and Nancy Landt and husband Rick of Liscomb; a sister Catherine Huffman and husband Arvid of Boone; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In memory of Marie, memorials may be directed to the family.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
