Karen Kay Eagan

Karen Kay Eagan was born on June 8, 1940, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was the second of two daughters born to Henry and Helen (Traudt) Brungardt.

Karen grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where she attended Southeast High School. She was an outstanding student and participated in a variety of activities including cheerleading and Homecoming Court as Queen. She formed a very close relationship with her sister, Marilyn Shanks.

In August 1961 she met her future husband, Ronald Charles Eagan (known as "Chuck") while he was in the Air Force in Lincoln. They were married on May 26, 1962. Through this union, they were blessed with three sons; Jeff, Chris and Mike.

During her life, she held many occupational roles. She was the behind the scenes CEO of her family while supporting Chuck's occupational dreams including running his own physical therapy practice for 15 years. She was also employed as a receptionist at Mary Greeley Medical Center for 7 years. In 2006, she retired from Ames High School as a Teacher's Aide for the English Department. Through these positions she demonstrated her love and compassion for the well-being of those around her.

Karen's family was always her first priority. She was an incredible wife and mother. As a wife, she supported Chuck in personal and business endeavors during their wonderful marriage of 50 years. As a mother to three sons, she was routinely a referee for wrestling matches, a transporter to sporting events and extracurricular activities, a provider of endless meals and a devoted encourager for her kids to excel at anything they attempted.

Karen had a number of hobbies during her life. She enjoyed attending sporting events and extracurricular activities of her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her sister, Marilyn. Together they would shop for clothes and decorations, have endless phone conversations and care for their father, Henry. Karen was an outstanding cook who catered to the needs of everyone's stomachs with her famous "tasties", roasts, and spaghetti meals. With Chuck and her friends, she enjoyed going to bingo, movies and out to eat. She had a passion for a variety of flowers which were often displayed at her home.

On August 16, 2012, Karen passed away peacefully in the arms of God and her family at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.
