From Boeke Funeral Homes obituary, Radcliffe, Hardin County, Iowa:

Irvin Hodnefield, age 96, of Story City, Iowa, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the Hubbard Care Center.

Irvin Hodnefield was born in Lakefield, MN on October 9, 1914. His parents were John A. and Christopha (Tow) Hodnefield. At the age of six months, they moved to a farm west of Radcliffe. Irvin attended country school, Lincoln Township #8. He attended Ellsworth High School for one year then transferred to Radcliffe and graduated in 1931.

After he was united in marriage to Ruth Gelhaus on March 5, 1947, they made their first home on a farm west of Radcliffe. Then they moved to a farm known as the “Osmundson Farm” three miles south of Radcliffe. He spent his entire working life farming and truly enjoyed the farm life and the livestock. Along with farming, Irvin was an ASGROW seed dealer. In 1984, they retired and moved to Story City.

He was involved in the formation of and an early board member of the Ellsworth Coop Telephone Association. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church for 95 years. He was also involved in other organizations such as Lutheran Brotherhood and Farm Bureau.

Irvin passed away in his sleep early Christmas morning at the Hubbard Care Center.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife Ruth, a resident at the Hubbard Care Center; one daughter Gloria Stehley and her husband Jim of McFarland, WI; one son Glen and his wife Cindy of Radcliffe; five grandchildren Jennifer, Ethan and Zachary Stehley, Luke and Hannah Hodnefield; one sister Avonelle Ostebee of Story City; along with many other relatives and friends.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Marguerite Hegland, one brother Francis Hodnefield and one grandson Kyle Hodnefield.

Let us give thanks to God for the life and memory of Irvin Hodnefield.

Service:

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe.

Cemetery:

Burial will be in the Radcliffe Cemetery.
