Howard Clark Brattebo, 81, of Hayesville passed away peacefully Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Clay County Care Center. He was born and raised in Story City, but had lived in Germany and eight states before moving to Clay County in 1989. He was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. After his teaching career, he worked in the computer industry, retiring in Atlanta as a regional manager. Howard was raised in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City and attended the Hayesville First United Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Gerhard Alfred and Edith Jeanette Hovland Brattebo.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Sylvia Day Brattebo; a daughter, Ann B. Doran of Hayesville; a son, David M. Brattebo of Hayesville; a brother, William Brattebo and wife, Iva Jean of Montrose, Colorado; a niece, Cathy B. White and husband, Brian, of Montrose; four grandchildren, Melissa B. Fetzner and husband, Glen, John R. Baker and wife, Dana, Annelise Brattebo, and Nathan Brattebo; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kirk Hatherly officiating.
