Olava Serena Barke Rasmussen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ove Barke was born at Borke, Straid's Prestgjeld, Norway, Feb. 2, 1870. In 1872 she came with her parents to this country where they settled in Story county. At the age of 14 she was confirmed by Rev. Jacobson. She attended school at Cedar Falls after which she taught school six years, 3 of which she spent at the schools of Story City. In 1895 she was married to B. M. Rasmussen with whom she lived a happy life until the time of her death, May 21, 1901. She was very popular with her friends and will long be remembered by them. Her funeral Friday afternoon was one of the largest held here.
