Donald E. Banks
June 6, 1928 - January 26, 2011

Donald Earl Banks, 82, of Nevada passed away on Wednesday January 26, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames with his loving family by his side. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday January 29 at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. A private graveside service will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

He was born on June 6, 1928 to Samuel and Mary (McIntosh) Banks in Nevada, Iowa. Don attended and graduated from Fernald High School in 1946. After high school Don joined the Army and after his military duty, he returned back to Iowa where he married the love of his life Y-Vonne D. Conner on July 7, 1951 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Of this union four sons were born.

Don was a farmer and had a love for working the land. He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, antiquing, and he was an avid cribbage player.

Those left to cherish Don’s memory are his loving wife of 60 years Y-Vonne; four sons Ed and Sharon of Muscatine, Sam and Sue of Nevada, Dave and Candy of Unionville, and Ben and Joanne of Grover Beach, CA; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; a sister Merie (Merle) Wilkening of Colo; and a brother-in-law, Leo Tjelmeland of Nevada.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sally Tjelmeland, daughter-in-law Carol Banks, and granddaughter Kristi Ann Banks.

A memorial fund has been established in Don’s name for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames or the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

No public service has been scheduled.

Cemetery:

A private graveside service will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
