Dorothy Mae Niblock
August 7, 1921 - October 4, 2011

Dorothy Mae Niblock, 90 of Nevada died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place and the cremains will be interred privately in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on August 7, 1921 in a beautiful farm home 1 ½ miles south of Ellsworth to Godfrey J. and Anna (Sexy) Thoreson. She attended school in Fernald and graduated from Nevada High School in 1939. While attending Waldorf College in Forest City, Dorothy became one of the queens of the college. She was united in marriage to Bob Nelson in April of 1941. Bob and his parents were instrumental in building the Nevada airport west of town. Following Bob's sudden death in 1963, Dorothy married LaNair Niblock on August 16, 1969. She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Mary church circle, Stephen Ministry, and P.E.O. Dorothy loved meeting and greeting people with her infectious smile.

Dorothy is survived by her husband LaNair Niblock of Nevada; a daughter, Karen Ann (Norman) Corbin of Orlando, FL, 3 sons, Fred G. (Janet) Nelson of Glen Ellyn, IL, Paul G. Nelson of Wilmington, NC, and James (Mavis) Niblock of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert L. Nelson in 1963, a daughter, Kathie Jean Nelson Berrett on January 28, 2000, a brother Ernest Thoreson on February 8, 1951, a sister Shiela Thompson on October 19, 2000, and a son-in-law Roger Carr.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Dorothy for the Memorial Lutheran Church.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Dorothy and her family.
