Elva Louise Mayo
November 17, 1918 - February 21, 2012

Elva Louise Mayo, 93 of Nevada died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24 in the First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Elva was born on November 17, 1918 in Hickory County, MO to Oliver L. and Ora A. (Cooper) Dooly. She attended Elm Springs Country School and was a 1937 graduate of Weaubleau, Missouri High School. Elva also graduated from Madame Kennedy's cosmetology school in Des Moines. On May 2, 1942, she was united in marriage to Elmore C. Mayo in Bethany, MO. Elva retired from Donnelley Marketing in November of 1983. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bithiah Church Circle, two 500 card clubs, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Elva enjoyed playing cards, reading, and attending all kinds of social events.

Elva is survived by two sons, Michael J. (Annabell) Mayo of Herington, KS and James E. (Janet) Mayo of Nevada; two daughters, Susan K. (Chuck) Sutherland of Des Moines and Kathleen J. (Ronald) Tiffany of Nevada; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine step grandchildren.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmore on June 17, 1984, 3 brothers James Marvin (Evelyn) Dooley, L.B. (Helen) Dooley, and Oliver L. Dooly, Jr.; 3 sisters Alta (Ken) Case, Effie (Harold) Dewitt, and Ava (James) Spainhower.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Elva for the First United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Association and Arthritis Foundation.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Elva and her family.
