Claude Lee Zook
July 8, 1917 - March 1, 2012

Claude Lee Zook, 94 of Story City, formerly of Nevada died peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City with Pastor Ed Ward officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service with military rites at 3:15 p.m. in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.

Lee was born on July 8, 1917 in Nevada to Earl and Eva (Tillotson) Zook. He was a 1934 graduate of Nevada High School and attended ISU. Lee proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. On December 30, 1939, he was united in marriage to Helen B. Hill in McCallsburg. Lee retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 34 years of dedicated service. He was the past Commander of the American Legion in Nevada, served on the Nevada City Council, was a member of the Sons of Norway, and a Deacon at St. Petri Lutheran Church. He and his wife also delivered Meals-on-Wheels for 16 years. Lee enjoyed reading, search-a-word puzzles, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.

Lee is survived and lovingly remembered by his family - Helen, his beloved wife of 72 years; two daughters, Diane (Frank) McLaughlin of San Jose, CA and Candy (Bill) Fredericksen of Estherville, IA; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; two sisters, Pat Jacobson of Banning, CA and Nadine (Leonard) Rosga of Bishop, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, sons Barry on January 20, 2009 and Gary on December 15, 2003, a daughter Claudia Anderson on January 20, 2011, a granddaughter Cami Anderson, his brother Eddie Zook; three sisters, Mary Grovier, Doris Ann Cook and Ruth Stoeffler.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Lee for the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City or the American Heart Association.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Lee and his family.
