Maxwell, Iowa

Edward “Dale” Pyle, 91, of Maxwell passed away peacefully Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Dale was born April 22, 1920, in Butler, MO, to Ed and Edith (Petty) Pyle. After graduating from Cornell High School in 1938, Dale moved to Maxwell. He met Lois Robertson, and on September 7, 1943, they were married. Dale worked in the Maxwell area until he entered the United States Army during World War II serving under General George S. Patton and helping liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp. After returning home from the war, Dale worked hauling livestock. He was the owner/operator of a Standard Oil Tank Wagon delivering fuel oil, diesel and gas in the Maxwell community, retiring in 1976. Dale then went to work for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier retiring in May of 1992. He and Lois owned Lois and Dale’s Shoppe in Maxwell for many years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Maxwell, Lions Club of Maxwell, Maxwell VFW, American Legion Post #249 and had served over 50 years on the Maxwell Volunteer Fire Department. Dale was a very active businessman in the Maxwell Community. He enjoyed crossword puzzles (in ink), animals and dancing.

Dale is survived by his daughters, Connie Jo (Carl) Cory of Maxwell and Michelle Cairns (Tim Hinderks) of Maxwell; his grandchildren, Melissa Cory of Maxwell, Matthew Cory, of Maxwell, Christie Cairns (Ryan Jensen) of Bondurant and Allison (Ryan) Vavroch of Keystone; his great-grandchildren, Austin Cory, Miranda Cory and Caitlyn Turner; his brother, Loyd (Pat) Pyle of Orange City, FL; his sisters-in-law, Lila Pyle of WA, Enid Pyle of NC, Coral Myers of Maxwell, and Donna Andersen of AZ; along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 2003; his parents; and three brothers, Ray, Lyle and Wally.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell; burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center with military honors. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday evening also at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dale Pyle Memorial Fund.
