July 10, 1930 - May 23, 2011Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Harvest Vineyard Church in Ames. Funeral services will be held for Ruth A. Meyer, 80, of Ames on Thursday, May 26th, at 2:00 PM. The services will be held in the Harvest Vineyard Church at 1627 South High Ave in Ames with Josh Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery at a later date.
Ruth was born July 10, 1930, at Onawa to Ross and Helen Willey. Ruth graduated from Whiting High School in 1948 and received her B.S. degree in Home Economics Education at Iowa State University in 1952. She enjoyed sports and was a first team starter on the girls basketball team for four years while in high school at Whiting.
On June 24, 1951, Ruth and Clyde W. Meyer were united in marriage at Whiting. While Ruth completed her final year at Iowa State, Clyde moved to Rockwell City to become County Extension Youth Assistant. Ruth joined Clyde in Rockwell City after graduation and taught Home Economics and Science at Somers High School.
After farming for 11 years at the family farm at Odebolt, the couple lived in Sheldon, Onawa, and Mapleton Iowa. They moved to Ames in 1983 and Ruth worked at the Ag and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State for 11 years.
Ruth attended Harvest Vineyard Church in Ames. She was a member of Chapter IV, P.E.O., Sun Dial Chapter D.A.R., Ag Engineering Women, and Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Survivors are two daughters, Linda Jean Meyer Kelly (Dick) of Boone and Sharon Meyer Callaway of Scottsdale, AZ; two sons, Steven Dwight Meyer (Kathy Arnold) of Boulder, CO, and Jeffrey Ross Meyer (Jodeen) of Sunnyvale, CA; six grandchildren, Gail Meyer, Holly Meyer, Kayla Gonzales, Andre Jones, Savannah Callaway, Sam Callaway, Sunday Callaway, Paige Myers, Mike Kelly, Aaron Pearson, Travis Arnold, and Valerie Arnold; one brother, Vincent Willey (Katherine) of Onawa; and one aunt, Ruth Borchers of LeMars.
