Richard Edward Magie
December 29, 1948 - May 22, 2011

Dick Magie, 62, of Des Moines, died Sunday, May 22, 2011. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. and the funeral service on Tuesday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m., both at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Ankeny. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Dick was born December 29, 1948 in Albia to W.A. and Kathryn Magie. He served in the U.S. Navy for two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post 136, and a member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW, and Arcadia Lodge #249. His special interests were his family and friends, Wednesday pitch games, off road jeeping, camping, deer hunting, and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Magie, of Des Moines; sons, Joshua (Amanda) Magie, of Ames, Doug (Christy) Lovstuen, of Albia, and Michael Magie, of Lynnville; daughters, Chelsey and Sidney Evans, both of Des Moines, Mackenzie Evans, of Memphis, TN, Jenny (Jim) Lenger, of Anamosa, and Brenda (Tim) Butler, of Albia; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Kay (Jim) Bowden, of Peotone, IL, and Mary Ann (George) Reade, of Salt Lake City, UT; 3 brothers, George (Joan) Magie and John (Diane) Magie, all of Rogers, AR, and William (Fran) Magie of Polk City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Jim.
