Obituary

Angela L. Baker, 90, a resident of Ames for over sixty-five years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Bellingham, Washington.
Services will be held Saturday, July 9 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery, Graceland addition.

Angela Baker was born in Paola, Kansas on January 8, 1921 to Lucy and Joseph Buckley. Angela attended parochial school n Paola, Kansas, the Ursuline Academy. She entered nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City in the fall of 1939.

Upon graduation from nurses training as a Registered Nurse she moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Her nursing experience was as an industrial nurse with some large companies in that area. She also was employed at Barnes Hospital Outpatient Clinic in St. Louis. In Ames Angela was a volunteer school nurse at St. Cecilia School some ten years.

She married Durwood L. Baker, D.V.M. of Algona, Iowa in Paola, Kansas on May 15, 1945. In 1947 when Dr. Baker completed service in both theatres of war Ames became their home.

She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and church historian for over fifteen years. Angela was a 50 year member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a past president of Story County Chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society, and had been a member of the Women's Club at Iowa State University. She was still active in a retired registered nurses group, and was a Life Member of the Mary Greeley Auxiliary.

Survivors include her four daughters Barbara Baker (and Greg Mincheff) of Henderson, Nevada; Jeanne Baker (and Alan Dyer) of Cumming; Martha (Marti) Mount (and Michael Mount) of Coralville; and Lynn Logan (and Scott Logan) of Ferndale, Washington and two granddaughters Stephanie Mount of Washington, D.C. and Kelsy Logan of Ferndale, Washington.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Durwood Baker, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

The family will greet friends after the service on Saturday afternoon.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Cecilia Church or the Companion Animal Fund at the College of Veterinary Medicine at
Iowa State University.
