Obituary

Clela Mae Doggett, 73, of Ames, was peacefully placed into the arms of Jesus, while surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, June 30, 2011. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, July 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

Clela was born July 28, 1937 at home in rural Hamilton County, Iowa to Clarence and Carrie Caruth. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1955. Clela met James Doggett at Ames Skateland, and it was their shared love of Gospel and Country Music that bonded the couple together. Their dates frequently included the old KRNT Theatre for a night of Country Music. James and Clela were married on June 9, 1956 in Ellsworth, Iowa.

The couple lived in Fairfield for 23 years, where Clela helped raise more than 200 children in her home day care. She continued to care for children at the Olive Branch Day Care after they moved to Ames in 1988.

Jim and Clela enjoyed camping and traveled through all 50 states. They visited 49 states in their motor home and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii, and their 50th anniversary in Alaska. Clela shared her love of music with her family and friends. She enjoyed singing and playing many instruments including the piano, organ, autoharp, Dobro guitar, and hand bells. She spent her retirement years entertaining and jamming at bluegrass festivals and country music jam sessions.

Clela is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Doggett; four children, Dennis (Linda) Doggett of Boone, Deborah Parker of Marion, Douglas (Cindy) Doggett of Bondurant, and Darcy Doggett of Bloomfield, NJ; seven grandchildren, Dustin Doggett, Dawn Doggett, Zachary Parker, Sara Doggett, Jessica Doggett, Jennifer Parker, and Katelyn Parker; three step grandchildren, Jason (Juliet) Stevens, Amber Stevens, and Tyler Stevens; two step great grandchildren, Kaylee Stevens, and Jackson Stevens; Four brothers, Curtis (Marian) Caruth, Clifford Caruth, Clayton (Karla) Caruth, and Carroll (Cyndie) Caruth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Carolyn Caruth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions are made to the American Cancer Society for the study and cure of renal cell carcinoma.
