ObituaryMildred Mary Morrissey, 94, of Ames, died October 29, 2011 at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a vigil service at 6 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Mildred Mary Morrissey was born May 17, 1917 in Ackley, Iowa to William F. and Gertrude (Blake) Jacob. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught at the Napier Consolidated School for three years and did substitute teaching in the United Community School system. She worked in the Accounts Payable Department of Mary Greeley Medical Center from 1962 until 1987. In retirement she served as treasurer for the Appalachia Committee, and volunteered at Edwards School, Worldly Goods, Mary Greeley Medical Center and St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
On June 15, 1940, Mildred was married to T. Joseph Morrissey, who preceded her in death in 1984. Surviving are two sons, Michael Morrissey of Saratoga, CA, and Joseph Morrissey of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Patricia Rotharmel of Greeley, CO, and Mary Pisney, of Iowa Falls; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Love Your Neighbor Fund, in care of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
