Obituary

Charles A. Parker Sr., 90, a longtime Ames resident, died February 24, 2012 at Green Hills Care Center. Funeral services and burial will be at a later date.

Charles Parker was born November 5, 1921 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Arthur G. and Ellen (Kellett) Parker. He married Betty L. Villiard on August 30, 1946.

He served as a Corporal in the Army Air Force during WWII 1942-1945. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Forestry from Iowa State College. He was employed in the Office of Contracts at the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring after 35 years.

He was a lifetime member and past commander of VFW Post 674, American Legion Post 37 and a member of 40/8 Voiture 285, and Calvary United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Linda Anderson, of Redding, CA; Karen (Tim) O'Donovan, of Grand Rapids, MI; Charles (Mary Ann) Parker Jr., of Cedar Rapids; and Dennis (Becky) Parker of Johnston; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on April 7, 1991; parents; and sister, Marjorie Turner.
