Raymond S. Foss, Jr.

BORN: March 31, 1930
DIED: January 18, 2011
LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Raymond S. Foss, Jr. was born March 31, 1930 in Sheridan, Illinois, the son of Raymond, Sr. and Elizabeth (Twait) Foss. He graduated from Cashton High School, Cashton, Wisconsin in 1949 and served October 1949 to January 1953 in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 17, 1957, he married Carol Brown at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Ray owned and operated Dairy Queens in Estherville and Story City and two laundromats in Ankeny. For many years after retirement, Ray worked for the Story City Parks Department during the summers and at Ose Hardware Store in Story City during the winters.

Ray was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church where he had served on the council. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He loved traveling, farming for the Thompson’s and Mortvedt's, his friends, and most of all, his family.

Ray passed away January 18, 2011 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa at 80 years of age.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Story City; one son Tom (Kris) Foss of Story City; three beautiful granddaughters, Samantha of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Alica, a student at Iowa State University, and Maggie, a student at Roland-Story Schools; one sister, Marjorie (Maurice) Zank of Marshall, Missouri; two brothers, Clifford (Leone) Foss of LaGrange, Illinois and Krist (Joyce) Foss of Ocala, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by: his birth mother Elizabeth in 1934 at the age of 29; his father and mother Ray and Bessie; one sister Myrtle Billard; and one brother Lorne Foss.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
