GARY CANON
March 14, 1936 – January 29, 2011

Gary Canon, 74, of Ames, passed away on January 29, 2011 at Israel Family Hospice House after a courageous battle against cancer. Visitation will be on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 1pm to 4pm at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames; included will be a brief prayer service at 3pm. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery at a later date.

Gary worked as a bridge inspector for the Iowa Highway Commission for several years, and then worked for more than 20 years as a sales representative/vice president with the Ames Advertiser and the Boone County Shopping News. In 1991 he started his own local free TV guide.

He enjoyed drawing cartoons and caricatures, wood carving, watching Iowa State Cyclone sports, listening to a wide variety of music, socializing with friends and classmates and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Beverly (‘Babe’), their four sons, Mike (Cynthia), Doug (Dawn) of Ames, Greg (Lori) of Ankeny and Chris, of Des Moines, thirteen grandchildren and many cousins.
