Douglas Gudbaur
BORN: August 19, 1933
DIED: February 15, 2011
LOCATION: Ames, IowaDoug was born August 19, 1933 in Sparta, Wisconsin to Bernard and Theresa (Dunbar) Gudbaur. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1951. Doug served in the Army during Korean War. He was manager of a Kroger Grocery store, sales rep for Blue Cross Blue Shield for many years and a supply clerk at Woodward State Hospital for sixteen years. He married Janet Champlin in 1981 in Adel, Iowa. Doug was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion.
Doug played guitar for many years with several bands in Wisconsin as a young man, continuing through his years in Northeast and North Central Iowa as well as Ames and surrounding communities. He never read music as he was blessed with this talent. Doug loved gardening, spending time with his wife of 29 years and their cat PI. Doug’s wit and sense of humor brought much joy to family and friends.
His survivors include his wife, Janet of Ames; his children, son, Scott (Nancy) Gudbaur of West Des Moines, daughter, Michele (Rodger) Graves of Mason City, daughter, Kim Reinsel of Webster City, and son, Paul Gudbaur of Charles City; three step-children; nine grandchildren, Blake, Sarah, Amber, Ian, Elliot, Kody, Austin, Kala, Christoper ; and four great grandchildren, Evan, Kameron, Karson and Taylin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tress and Bernard; sister, Virginia; brother, Dale; mother and father-in-law, Harry and Florence Shrake; and first wife, Ardell Mikkelson.
